AEON CO. (M) BHD. (Malaysia) has launched "AEON Community Food Share Programme" and held its launching ceremony on 12th September at AEON Cheras Selatan, Malaysia.
The AEON Community Food Share Programme is a teamed up programme between AEON CO. (M) BHD. and Kechara Soup Kitchen which is a non-religious community action group that distributes food, basic medical aid and counseling to the homeless and urban poor of Malaysia. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs' of Malaysia call to reduce wastage, as well as to share food and resources with the underprivileged communities on a daily basis. To achieve this, we, AEON, distribute a healthy amount of food to selected homes and Soup Kitchens daily. It started in AEON Cheras Selatan and from there, extend to all AEON Malls and Stores across the Malaysia.
The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that in Malaysia, the amount of food wasted is about 15,000 tons per year and for scale. Food wastage is a major concern as it emits greenhouse gasses such as methane, which contributes to global warming. Taking note of the severity of this issue, AEON hopes to combat food wastage by launching the AEON Community Food Share programme.
