Aiming to restore watershed function in the forest around Hlawga Lake
Tree Planting activity in Myanmar (7th July2018)
AEON Environmental Foundation and Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) conducted the 5th Yangon, Myanmar Tree Planting in the Hlawga Lake area located outside Yangon City. (35 kilometers far from Yangon City) This was the twice of 3rd "A 3-YEAR MYANMAR TREE PLANTING PROJECT". We began planting trees in 2013 for 3 years in the woods around Pyugyi Reservoir, located in the outskirts of Yangon. In 2016 the 4th year of the project, it shifted the target area of tree planting to the Hlawga Lake area under new 3-YEAR plan.
We planted 13,000 trees with total participant of 1,300 guests from Japan and Myanmar, Ministries and AEON Microfinance (Myanmar) staffs. Mr. Ichiro Maruyama (Embassy of Japan to Myanmar), U Maung Maung Soe (Mayor of Yangon City), U Tin Maung Tun (Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker), Committees of Yangon City Development and Mr. Motoya Okada (President of AEON Co., Ltd) also planted trees with participants.
Participant from AEON Orange Co., Ltd. said “It was our pleasure of participating in this event because we can save our environment and our child all around the world by planting and making green our environment. We are very thankful to all participants who are planned this events and contribute in planting together with us. We bless you all to enjoy in more CSR programs in future."
Hlawga Lake is a source of domestic
water for the residents of Yangon and the surrounding areas. AEON Environmental
Foundation conducted this project to restore the watershed conservation function
of the woods by further enriching the environment of the woods so that
residents can continue their sustainable use of the lake in the future. This brought
the total number of trees planted until now to 47,000.
